Ways to Give

The Alvah N. Belding Memorial Library provides several opportunities for the public to lend its financial support for the library. These opportunities encompass many benefits to both the library and the gift’s donors.

Memorial Book Plan - Make a cash contribution in memory of a deceased person or in honor of a living person or event to be used to purchase a book or other item.  A plate will be put on the book identifying the giver as well as the person/event being remembered.  Book memorials last longer than flowers.  Teachers and grandparent are often honored this way. Your suggestion of a subject area will be honored if appropriate to the collection needs at the time.  Acknowledgements will be sent to the family or person with donor’s name.

BequestsBy remembering the library in your will you create a lasting memorial. As with the memorial book plan you may request an area of support. (Real Estate and other property may also be given as  a bequest to the library.)  If you are considering a bequest to the library a  meeting with the library board or the library director would be advised.

Appreciated SecuritiesAppreciated securities are another way to give to the library instead of cash.  A gift of securities to the library may have tax advantages for the donor.

Trusts Arrangements - Charitable trusts offer the library the income of an asset for a specified number of years or in perpetuity.  If you are a  considering trust for the library, a meeting with the library board or  library director would be advised. (See your attorney or financial advisor for specifics details)

Life Insurance - Name the library as owner and beneficiary of a life  insurance policy. It allows you to make a substantial gift and the premium is tax deductible.

Library Endowment - Gifts of $20,000 or more to a community foundation can be specified to establish an endowment for the Alvah N. Belding Memorial Library. If you are considering this type of gift please contact the library board or the library director. Individual endowments may also be established to benefit the the library.

Cash gifts to libraries are eligible for tax credits and/or  deductions. Businesses are also elegible to receive tax benefits for contributions made to the library.   Always check with your attorney and/or financial advisor for accurate legal advice before making substantial gift to the to the library.
